Zygor Guides Review

by Baz Anderson on January 26, 2009

World of Warcraft was Blizzard’s first entry into the Massive Multiplayer RPG arena. They created a game that is, by design, easy to learn and play, but can get rather long and involved the deeper into the game you go. This is especially true now that two expansions and 20 levels have been added to the mix. Creating deep content that takes time to get through increases the time necessary to reach the top of the leveling ladder, and if done correctly can increase the length of subscriptions.

But it’s not just time and money players are looking to save when they look for a leveling guide- sometimes it is their sanity. Burning out on a beloved game is a big disappointment for a player.

Enter Zygor Guides. Zygor was already one of the top guides when they blazed a new trail by making an in-game tool that allowed players to have all the guide’s information right on their game screen as they play.

Enjoying MMO’s like WoW or Warhammer is much more complex than simply moving forward and getting a higher number on your character portrait.

I’ve written about the complexities of the fantasy involved in modern MMO’s. If there is a limitation to leveling guides (including Zygor’s) it is that they can reduce the game to the lowest common denominator: Level. But it is a little difficult to take a zen master’s detached approach to leveling when it is hardwired into every aspect of the game’s design.

Leveling Is Not The Be-all and End-All of MMO’s, But….

The game is designed to pull players through one experience after another like rats through a maze who are jonesing for cheese. Leveling is not the only, or necessarily most important way to advance. But many players don’t discover that until they reach the level cap. Add in players who need to go through the time to level more than one character and content that is not always as enjoyable as it was designed to be and you have a formula for a strong desire to just level faster.

If You’re Going To Buy One Guide…

You naturally want the leveling guide you choose to be the best.

I’ve tried some different guides, and in addition to Zygor’s being the best and easiest/most fun to level with – it is also the easiest to use because it has a free in-game guide that gives you step by step instruction for the quickest leveling. Hell, there is even a bright green arrow onscreen (which you can turn off if you prefer) that will take all of the guesswork out of leveling and just point you to the exact spot where you need to go next!

There are some times where you will not want the kind of spot on, personal assistance geared towards you character that Zygor Guides give, and here is why:

Sometimes the games is about having fun with friends, exploring, getting achievements or other more esoteric things. It isn’t always about burning through levels at high speed.

Also, frankly, the guide isn’t not designed to help you get the most out of all of the content. The guide does not focus on instances or dungeons. It will not tell you how to win friend in game and influence Tauren. It doesn’t cover crafting or fishing or any number of other fun activities in the game.

It is laser focused on the fastest leveling that you can do in the game – doing the best and the quickest quests.

Now, Let Me Be Honest Here. This is Not For Every Player.

The kind of player that will get the most out of these guides are:

  • Strong, self-motivated players who know what they want
  • Players who know what content they like and don’t
  • Players who like being able to quickly hit the next level when the choose, or lay back and enjoy what they’ve accomplished at other times.
  • Players who know that having a choice in how fast they level gives them more options and lets them be flexible in their planning
  • Players who don’t want to make the game a full-time career

The Guide You Choose Makes a Difference

I’ve played Wow on and off for a few years now – more off than on. But when I play, I have tried the game every way it can be played – solo and grouped, with a guide and without, and with a worthless guide and with a Zygor guide.

Trust me, the guide you choose makes all the difference in the world. Zygor doesn’t just make a solid guide that will get you from point A to point B. The guide is an in-game companion that will let you know when you are on the fast track, and when you are off. I’ve spent a fair bit of time off the fast track, but that time is definitely more enjoyable when you know that you can ding your next level (or next 10 for that matter) as fast as you need to – all the way up to the level cap (80) without breaking a sweat.

With Zygor you always know where to go next, what to do, what area you’ll be in and what you’ll need to take with you to get the most out of it Xp-wise.

Why I’m Endorsing This Guide

I hate crass commercialism with a white-hot fucking passion and so should you. As I’ve worked hard to make this blog the best it can be I’ve put a lot of my own money and time into the endeavor.

If I told you about even half of the ridiculously bad, mind-numbing garbage I have been told I should sell on this website you would call me a Saint for not bothering you with all of the crap.

And you can imagine my relief when I found a product I’ve actually used with no regrets; a product that tells you what it will do, and then delivers exactly that and more.

If you play World of Warcraft and love it, I promise you it is worth sixty seconds of your time to click the link below and see if it is for you.
